I [Dance] In The Corridor

Mercer University is unique for a variety of reasons but most notably, the great deal of philanthropic campaigns carried by the students. Unlike typical universities, we do not simply choose one philanthropy to support through one large event; the students endeavor to take on the major fundraising campaigns of Relay for Life, Up ‘Til Dawn for St. Jude, and Dance Marathon.

What is unique about Dance Marathon is that the funds raised by Mercer University students directly benefits the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital of Central Georgia, located right here in the corridor! Notably, any incident that requires pediatric treatment from here in the corridor all the way to Tallahassee will be sent to our very own Children’s Miracle Network hospital on High Street downtown. Over the last eight years, Mercer University students have been raising money to help fund the hospital as no child is turned away by their inability to pay. See? It’s just that more important that we engage in our local philanthropic organizations! Since its genesis, Mercer’s Dance Marathon has raised a whopping $88,635 and has no plans to rest on its laurels.
Last year, the Dance Marathon executive board led students in raising nearly $15,000 and they remain hopeful this year. What exactly does the day of Dance Marathon entail? This year’s Marathon is from 11am-5pm on Saturday, February 23rd in the RLC and is jam-packed with fun games, dancing, arts and crafts, and Miracle Stories from children who were treated at the hospital. Is that not enticing enough? There will also be raffle prizes from local Macon restaurants, Betsey Pittard designs, Southern Tide, and even an Intel Laptop with Windows 8! Raising money can also start here!

Local Macon Restaurants are getting involved, too! Here’s the schedule for percentage nights which benefit this amazing organization. Stay hungry!
Monday: Marble Slab from 4-9pm
Tuesday: Francar’s in Mercer Village from 6-9
Friday: Margarita’s in Mercer Village from 4-close

I [Boogie] In the Corridor

Say it loud, say it proud: Let the good times roll! Especially in Mercer Village, folks. Tomorrow is Mardi Gras and what better way to indulge in delicious food, fun music, and fabulous friends than in The Village? Missed the details? Here they are!

From 11am-whenever the party stops, the businesses of Mercer Village have unbeatable specials to celebrate so make sure you check them out. Everyone from William Alexander Hair Salon to the scrumptious Crawfish Nachos featured by Margarita's will be participating; truly a can't-miss event! Drink specials, a balloon artist, and traveling sax musician, "Hurricane" Thomas are among the fancy festivities available indoors.

While the rain postponed the outdoor New Orleans activities like the parade and outdoor performers, we've saved them for good luck on the St. Patrick's day party in The Village just over a month away, March 16th.

So, come on out tomorrow ready for a great time! After all, who can resist beignets, crawfish nachos, great music and an even better party?

Thanks, Instagram!

We [Cruz] In The Corridor

Did you like my play on words, there?

As if moving forward through our expansion projects wasn't enough renovation to spring Mercer forward, the heart of Mercer's campus will soon become a lush yet modern plaza courtesy of the Cruz familiy. Trustee member, Mercerian, and Puerto Rican, Milton Cruz is the benefactor of the exciting facelift for Mercer's campus. The renovation includes the area from Greek row to Penfield hall, from Jesse Mercer Plaza to Stetson and adds a more cohesive feel to the campus. Cruz Plaza promises to open up the center of our campus and invite students to study outside, have a picnic with friends, toss a frisbee or even stargaze. What makes this renovation different from the original and loved Porter Patch, you're likely wondering? A waterfall is planned to be situated in the plaza in addition to creating a more cohesive atmosphere for the heart of campus. What do you plan on doing when Cruz Plaza is complete in August? leave comments/ideas below! I know a picnic with Fountain of Juice during a class break will be in my near future!
