Mercer University is unique for a
variety of reasons but most notably, the great deal of philanthropic campaigns
carried by the students. Unlike typical universities, we do not simply choose
one philanthropy to support through one large event; the students endeavor to
take on the major fundraising campaigns of Relay for Life, Up ‘Til Dawn for St.
Jude, and Dance Marathon.
What is unique about Dance Marathon is that the funds raised by Mercer University students directly benefits the
local Children's Miracle Network Hospital of Central Georgia, located right
here in the corridor! Notably, any incident that requires pediatric treatment
from here in the corridor all the way to Tallahassee will be sent to our very
own Children’s Miracle Network hospital on High Street downtown. Over the last
eight years, Mercer University students have been raising money to help fund
the hospital as no child is turned away by their inability to pay. See? It’s
just that more important that we engage in our local philanthropic organizations!
Since its genesis, Mercer’s Dance Marathon has raised a whopping $88,635 and
has no plans to rest on its laurels.
Last year, the Dance Marathon
executive board led students in raising nearly $15,000 and they remain hopeful
this year. What exactly does the day of Dance Marathon entail? This year’s
Marathon is from 11am-5pm on Saturday, February 23rd in the RLC and is
jam-packed with fun games, dancing, arts and crafts, and Miracle Stories from
children who were treated at the hospital. Is that not enticing enough? There
will also be raffle prizes from local Macon restaurants, Betsey Pittard
designs, Southern Tide, and even an Intel Laptop with Windows 8! Raising money can also start here!
Local Macon Restaurants are getting
involved, too! Here’s the schedule for percentage nights which benefit this
amazing organization. Stay hungry!
Monday: Marble Slab from 4-9pm
Tuesday: Francar’s in Mercer
Village from 6-9
Friday: Margarita’s in Mercer
